Create a new Job

There are many ways in which a job can be created. The most basic way is to click on the "Create Job" button on the header or to select "Create New Job" in the sidebar. This will open up a form which you can fill out to create a new job.

Default Form to Create Job

Jobs are created using a simple form which allows you to quickly create and start managing the job. The new job form is available from the sidebar option "Start New Job".

New Job Form

The default form is intentionally kept simple so that it is quick and easy to start up a new job. Supporting information, as well as adding assets, changing metadata and creating notes can all be handled after the initial creation of the job.

Title

The title of the job is a short text that briefly describes the job. It is displayed on most table listing out jobs to help you determine the contents of a particular job.

Start Date and Due Date

These dates define the overall start and due date of the job. They are not mandatory, however, when an initial task schedule based on the workflow are created, it will use the start date as the starting point to layout the schedule.

Details

The details are a longer description that should provide enough information to those working on the job to start working.

Workflow

Central to most jobs are the workflow. A workflow determines that various steps and logic required to take a job from start to completion. As a job progress through a workflow, TACTIC's workflow engine will track and record everything that happens in the job. The workflow engine pushes data through the various processes and ensure that all parties are properly notified.

A workflow defines what needs to be done in a particular job. This can include any number of tasks performed by people, automated processes and any conditional logic that that alter the flow of information. Each workflow is composed of a number or processes, whose actions must be performed to complete a job.

From the new Job form, you can select an already defined workflow or you can create a new one by clicking on the "New Workflow" button. Alternatively, if a job type has been selected, the workflow for the job will already be preselected.

Workflow

For more advanced users, you can create new workflows using the Visual Workflow Editor in the Workflow Manager module. From here, you can manage all the workflows in the system, create new workflows and edit existing ones. With the workflow Manager, you can interactively create the workflow for any type of job in any market vertical.

Assigning a workflow is not mandatory. It just means that an empty job will be created without tasks. However, a workflow can be assigned later and it is possible to manually create tasks as well. Using a workflow as a template to create tasks is often quicker than creating tasks individually. Additionally, a template schedule is created on creation of the job based on the Start Date of the job and the settings of each process in the workflow.

Job Submission

Submit creating the job by pressing the "Create a New Job" button. Once this job is created, the pop-up window will disappear and the view will switch to a details view of the newly created job.

Job Types

All jobs are categorized into Job Types. Your organization may have many different job types that can be catorgized ie. Property Tax, Building Permits, Municipal Facility etc. If multiple Job Types are defined, you will be presented with the options to select one before the job creation form. Job Types can define many aspects of how a job behaves and looks. To learn how to create Job Types, more detailed information can be found in the Job Type Documentation When a particular Job Type has been selected, it is possible that the Job Type defines a custom form for the creation of the job.

If multiple Job Types have been defined, you will be presented with a number of options to select the appropriate job type.

Job Type Selection

After clicking on the appropriate panel, the form configured for that job type will be presented to you. If no custom form has been defined, the default job creation form will appear.
